Logorama, a short film about brands

Sorry to all euro-geeks, but this post is not related to any EU topic. That being said, the following video is the “must see” of the week. Why? Not just because it is the (awesome) result of 4 years working, but also because it combines two main characteristics of modern marketing :
1. Brands (and their logos) are everywhere and part of our daily lives even if we don’t feel like being surrounded by them or deny them.
2. The amount of videos has dramatically increased these last years, not only in cinemas, on TV, but even more on the web where low budgets + creativity can produce nice surprises and big hits. In a word, video has been more and more playing an important role in online communications.
Logorama was made by H5 which previously directed splendid music videos for Massive Attack, Goldfrapp or Alex Gopher (cf. the fabulous “The Child” video). This 15 min short film presents a whole city entirely made out with brand logos, including characters like the Michelin man (the good guy in the movie), Ronald McDonald (the bad guy) or the Haribo kid. Not to mention the film is ful of references to classical movies, like Matrix.
A few weeks ago, a teaser was put online, as an appetizer…
Now is the time for the entire film which got the “Grand Prix de la Semaine de la critique” at the latest Cannes film festival and which has just been short-listed as a potential nominee for a 2010 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.
Surely, this film will remain as a one of its kind, but it reminds us how important creative quality video content will be in the future, not only for companies, but also for institutions… Last year, the European parliament tried out a few online videos. Who knows what is coming next!
