Twitter celebrating the fall of the Berlin wall

Twitter is much more than a simple egocentric tool or an online sharing platform. It has shown its increasing role in politics, especially during the Obama campaign. It is also becoming a pedagogical tool to remind us of our history. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH has created a website called BerlinTwitterWall.com where internet users can “share [their] thoughts on the historic Fall of the Wall and post a wish for the future”. How? Just tweet using the hashtag #fotw and your messages will appear on the virtual wall, it is that simple!
In a word, this is an excellent example of interactivity which succeeds in gathering people with different languages and cultures from all around the world in one central place to celebrate this unique event.
Of course, for those who want extra content and exchange 2.0 with other people, the initiative keeps on running through a blog, Twitter, Facebook fan page and Flickr with many arts pictures of the wall.
Let us expect some other similar initiatives for coming EU anniversaries! What’s next?
